Established: April 18, 2021
The association is a non-profit, volunteer-driven group founded on the principles of love, unity, and mutual respect. We are a community of childhood friends who shared formative years at the Cathedral Boys School, a place that shaped our early values and lasting brotherhood. Our association is committed to staying connected, supporting one another, and giving back to our communities, especially those most in need.
A Brief History of the Association*
The Cathedral Boys’ School 1977 Alumni Association emerged from a profound moment of reflection and reconnection. The passing of our dear childhood friend, Senay Habte, along with news of another friend facing challenges, served as a catalyst, reigniting the enduring bonds we formed during our school years. Special thanks to Aron Yazew and Fasil Tesfaye, whose unwavering dedication and outreach brought nearly 38 alumni back together. Another devoted CatheBoy, Heruy Mesfin, stepped in as acting president during this transformative journey. The association was officially established on April 18, 2021, and continues to thrive today with 24 committed members, both in the diaspora and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
At the heart of our association is a set of unwavering values that shape everything we do:
Love
Peace
Unity
Respect
Non-judgment
We strongly believe in nurturing a space that is free from religious, political, or racial bias. Our members come from diverse backgrounds, but we are united by shared experiences and a common goal — to uplift one another and support those who need it the most. Our environment fosters genuine connections, inclusivity, and positive collaboration.
Our mission is two-fold: to maintain the cherished brotherhood formed in our youth and to extend that spirit of unity to others in need. Specifically, we strive to:
Foster Lifelong Brotherhood
We aim to strengthen the friendships and bonds formed in our childhood, keeping our sense of community alive no matter where we live.
Provide Support in Times of Need
During difficult moments such as natural disasters, illnesses, or the passing of loved ones, we step in to provide emotional, physical, and financial support.
Assist Former Schoolmates and Teachers
We support our fellow alumni and former teachers facing financial hardships, offering aid and moral encouragement.
Support Needy and Orphaned Children
One of our key focus areas is helping orphaned and low-income children, especially those attending our alma mater — Cathedral Boys School 1977 Alumni Association. — by providing educational and financial assistance.
Expand Outreach to Vulnerable Communities
As our resources and capabilities grow, we aim to support various non-profit efforts that assist the elderly, sick, homeless, and underserved populations in Ethiopia.
We exist because friendship matters. Because the relationships we form as children can become lifelong sources of strength, healing, and joy. We also believe in the power of giving back — especially to the place and people who nurtured us. For many of us, our time at Cathedral was more than just an academic journey. It was the foundation of our values, friendships, and identity.
By staying connected and committed, we hope to show future generations what true community looks like — one built not just on shared memories, but on active service and heartfelt generosity.
While our numbers may be modest, our vision is bold. We are determined to continue growing, both in membership and in impact. Through regular meetings, reunions, and coordinated charity work, we keep our ties strong and our mission moving forward.
We invite all former students of the Cathedral Boys School, as well as supporters of our cause, to join hands with us. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your support can help extend our reach and deepen our impact.
Together, we honor our past by shaping a more compassionate future.
